I have been away from writing here for a while. I finished my dissertation on Ranulf de Glanville and received my Masters in Medieval Studies from the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David. Been busy with family and what with the end of the world threatening all the time I have been researching but not writing and that has to change.
The new project is about Hubert Walter, Bishop of Salisbury, Chief Justiciar, Richard I’s Chief of Staff, Archbishop of Canterbury, Papal Legate, Chancellor under King John, a leader in the Third Crusade and of course the nephew of Ranulf de Glanville.
This man, Hubert Walter, did all this before he died at the age of 42!!
I am looking at and thinking about some of the major flashpoints of conflict in his career and what that tells about his loyalties.
More to come!

Here he is negotiating with Saladin during the Third Crusade. He was still Bishop of Salisbury at the time.
